After
surrounding them with prayer at Holy Mass in the parish church, we sent
a busload of parish pilgrims to the March for Life in Washington, DC
this morning. It is the first time we filled a bus from our parish for
this peaceful demonstration in support
of life. As the Church celebrated the Feast of the Conversion of Saint
Paul, we prayed that the hearts of those who oppose the Gospel of Life
would also be transformed. Saul of Tarsus was on his way to implement
what was the law of the land -- the arrest and killing of Christians --
when the Lord Jesus spoke to him in a most powerful way. Our pilgrims
joined with hundreds of thousands today to continue what is without
doubt the largest human rights campaign in history, to pray that exactly
the same happens in our nation: even though the law of the land permits
killing unborn children, we cannot compromise the Gospel of Life. As we
surrounded our pilgrims and marchers with prayer today, may we also
spread the mantle of compassion over any woman who feels so overwhelmed
and confused that she sees abortion as the best option, asking that her
eyes be opened to see the many couples waiting to adopt a baby, the many
arms open to care for an unwanted child, the many places waiting to
provide skilled care during a difficult pregnancy.
